Anna Bell James

Anna Bell James Age: 94, Of: Dickson, Tennessee Passed Away: Wednesday, November 27, 2024. Mrs. James was born on September 16, 1930, to Thomas (Tom) and Emma Cannon. She grew up on Beaver Creek in the Pinewood Community of Hickman County until her family moved to Detroit for work while she was school aged. They moved back to Dickson County, where she has remained throughout her life. She was the fifth child born to Emma and Tom, she had five sisters: Lois, Sarah, Ecloy, Barbara and Martha; and one brother, Billy Dee. She married Glen Mac James on June 13th, 1946, while she was working at the local soda shop. They enjoyed fifty-seven years of marriage before he passed away. They have three wonderful boys, Donald (Linda) of Dickson, Ronald (Janey) of Dickson and Jesse (Joe Zeeben) of Memphis. Glen, Anna Bell, Donald and Ronald moved to their Highway 48 home in November of 1963. Jesse joined the family a few years later. Glen and Donald began a towing business in Dickson in 1974, Glen James and Son Wrecker Service. While Anna Bell would never admit to being the “Boss,” she definitely kept the business running with dispatching, bookkeeping, and generally keeping Glen in line.

Anna Bell was a wonderful Grandmother of eight loveable grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren and two great, great grandchildren. She and Glen’s legacy will live on for many generations to come.

Her love language was cooking for her family and anyone they brought with them. She was famous for her fried chicken and pecan pies and many other family favorites. Her beloved dog, Benji, loved to sample all her treats. She and Glen loved the Christmas holidays, they loved to shop, wrap presents and had an extensive collection of Santas of all sizes.

If you lived north of town in Dickson, chances are good that you have seen her working in her roses many days, until her illness prevented her from doing so. They were a favorite and beautiful pastime.

Most importantly, Anna Bell loved Jesus, she knew Him well and prayed millions of prayers for her family and friends. She was a devout member of Rock Church of Christ. She loved the members there and her friends and she enjoyed the annual singings and revivals. She memorized Scripture and was armed with the Armor of God.

She leaves behind a strong family that loves her and misses her deeply, but is forever thankful for the time they had with her.
