Carol Morrison Fuson passed away peacefully from this life to her home in heaven on November 5, 2024, at NHC in Dickson. She led a full and well-lived life of 96 years. Carol is rejoicing to be reunited with her beloved husband, Tom. Although their time together on earth was short, they are now together for eternity.
Carol was born on April 1, 1928, to William Cummins Morrison and Tennie Mai Bates Morrison in Dickson, TN. She grew up living on McCreary Heights with many friends. She returned to this neighborhood in her later years and enjoyed it as much as she had as a child. Carol graduated from Dickson High School in 1946 and a short time later she began working with her father’s insurance agency. It was there that she met Thomas Marshall Fuson, who at the time was a marketing representative calling on the agency. Tom and Carol were married on August 18, 1953.
Carol was known for her kindness, generosity, positive attitude, outgoing personality, quick wit, and funny saying for every situation. She made people laugh even in the most difficult circumstances. Carol was a strong southern woman who faced life’s challenges with grace and determination. She raised five children, making sure they were all dressed up for church every Sunday. She cooked huge meals that often came from their vegetable garden and farm animals they had raised. Carol loved large family gatherings with lots of food, especially desserts.
Carol was an animal lover. She always had dogs and cats nearby and cherished her favorite Pomeranians. She was especially fond of raising all kinds of fowl. She, Tom and the children raised guineas, ducks, chickens, and her favorite, peacocks. In fact, peacock feathers have become a family good luck symbol.
One of Carol’s favorite pastimes was shopping for antiques and collectibles, especially her glass “hens on the nest”. She spent countless hours outdoors “playing” in her flower gardens and working in her yard. She especially enjoyed her river cabin at Tom’s Creek. It was there that she, Tom, and their children developed a lasting family relationship with Jim and Montie Field and their girls. The Fields would become special life-long friends that were like family.
Carol was a lifetime member of Walnut Street Church of Christ. Her church family was very important to her. She would get there 30 minutes early to get a seat in “her” pew and save a place for all her friends. After God, nothing was more important to Carol than her family. She showed interest and enthusiasm for everything each one was involved in, from the oldest child to the youngest great grandchild. Gran C encouraged, nurtured, and advised till the very end of her life.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Will C. and Tennie Morrison, her husband Tom in May of 1981, her brother Will Morrison, Jr, and many relatives and friends including her special friends Jim and Montie Field.
Carol is survived by her children: Craig Fuson, Tommy (Anita) Fuson, Andra Fuson, April Rose (John), and Misha Wilkey (Scott). Her grandchildren and great grandchildren: Tate Fuson (Thomas Bennett) Grayston, Julia Fuson (Danny Canter) Jaymin Graber and Trevor Canter, Lynn Fuson Wright (Derrick) Julie and Dane, Stephanie Fuson Scott (Andy) Caleb and Lacie, Michelle Fuson Carneal (Mike) Kenlie and Clay Fussell, Brayden and Jaxton Carneal, Marshall Fuson (Miranda) Milan and Milleigh, Ellie Morse Thaxton (Michael) Hosanna, Banner, and Zephaniah, Kari Morse (David Gallerani), Peyton Lashlee Shields (Jonathan), Olivia Lashlee (Noah Ellis), Evan Lashlee, many nieces, nephews, and friends including her life-long friend and classmate, Harriett Shannon.
The family would like to express our sincere appreciation to the staff and caregivers at NHC and Caris Hospice for their loving and compassionate care. Also, special thanks to Henry Perkins, who visited every Sunday to worship with Carol and to Margo Jacobs who spent many hours with her Aunt Carol.
