Dorris ( Gene ) Smith

Age 72 Of Waverly, TN Died: Monday, November 29, 2010 Mr.Dorris Eugene “Gene” Smith was born on November 5, 1938 in Cuba Landing, TN to George Thomas and Ruby Belle Puckett Smith. After graduation from high school, Mr. Smith enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving proudly in Korea. Upon discharge he moved to Nashville, TN where he spent 30 years with the W.L. Hailey and Company. Upon retirement in 1992, he moved back to Cuba Landing where he operated the Buffalo Waste Water Treatment Plant until his death. Mr. Smith was an avid outdoorsman. He loved hunting, fishing, and searching for ginseng. Any time he spent outdoors was time well spent as far as he was concerned. Mr. Smith passed away on Nov. 29, after a long battle with lymphoma. No Visitation Graveside Service: for Mr. Gene Smith will be 2:00 PM, Thursday, December 2, 2010 at the McKeel Cemetery in Cuba Landing, TN Interment: McKeel Cemetery, Cuba Landing, TN Survived by: Wife of 49 years Julia “Judy” Smith of Waverly Sons: Russell Smith of TX and Lance (Stacey) Smith of White Bluff 2 Granddaughters: Katie Christine Smith of Ill and Hunter Layne Smith of White Bluff Preceded in death by: Parents: George Thomas and Ruby Puckett Smith and brothers Harold Smith and Ralph Vernon Smith.
