Edith Joan "Edie" Mathews Bullington

Mrs. Edith Joan “Edie” Mathews Bullington, age: 77 Of: McEwen, TN Died: Tuesday, January 29, 2019 at Waverly Healthcare. She was born March 27, 1941 in Detroit, Michigan. Mrs. Bullington was a member of Glenwood United Methodist Church. In the mid-1980s, she earned the Child Development Associate credential from Tennessee State University. Throughout her teaching career, she advanced her education through TSU as well as Columbia State University. Professionally, Edie was the beloved first classroom teacher to hundreds of preschoolers in Humphreys County through her decades of work with the Waverly Head Start Center. “Mrs. Edie”, as she is lovingly remembered, started her career as Assistant Teacher and was later promoted to Lead Teacher. Once she retired from full-time employment, Mrs. Edie volunteered countless hours reading to children and promoting literacy with her beloved Head Start classroom as well as classrooms in public school and church activities. She also wrote for the local paper, the News-Democrat. Along with being an educator, Mrs. Edie will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Visitation: will be held from 5:00 – 8:00pm Friday, February 1st and from 10:00am until service time Saturday, February 2nd at Humphreys County Funeral Home. Funeral Services: for Mrs. Edie will be conducted at 11:00am Saturday, February 2nd in the Humphreys County Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Charles Martin officiating. Interment: will follow in the Mathews Cemetery.
