Jacqueline Laurent Dumas as a spiritual being ended her human experience on 7 January 2019. Born on 18 February 1952 in Florence, Alabama, the daughter of the late Gerard and Lola Laurent, she lived most of her human experience in Humphreys County. A graduate of Waverly Central High School, she attended Columbia State Community College where she studied accounting and bookkeeping. She was an avid Girl Scout and Girl Scout Leader, a member of the Eastern Star and the Echota Cherokee Tribe. She was founder and President of the Humphreys County Tax and Bookkeeping Service for many years. Jacque worked for the Housing Authority part-time before selling her business to H & R Block. She then opened Jackie’s Bookkeeping Services in the same office she occupied in downtown Waverly for over 40 years. Jacque and her tax and bookkeeping services were staples of the businesses located in downtown Waverly. She never turned anyone away and was always a true friend to others.
Jacque’s passion was her numerous animals, Jacque’s Menagerie. This included Angora rabbits, pygmy goats, chickens, turkeys, ducks, peacocks, and a wide variety of purebred and mixed breed dogs. Jacque loved animals and would do everything in her power to help any animal that was in need. She was a member of the American Rabbit Breeders, National Angora Breeders, and American Kennel Association. A skilled artist, she used her abilities to create “fiber art” that was a beautiful reflection of her loving spirit.
Jacque was preceded in death by her husband, Don “Bear” Dumas and her grandson, Jarod Eden. She is survived by her daughter, Amy Joy Simpson and grandchildren Jessica and Jacob and great-grandchild, Elise, Hustburg, Tennessee; her brother, retired Navy Captain Christopher Laurent and his wife Donna, White Mountains, New Hampshire; Patricia Hemby and husband Ronnie, Scylacauga, Alabama, Danielle Laurent, Dickson, Tennessee, and Emilie Hagan, Waverly, Tennessee and many nieces and nephews.
Jacque believed the Cherokee vision, that the world is three dimensional. In addition to the four traditional directions, she believed in the three-dimensional world of the Cherokee that included “up,” “down” and “center,” which is where a person’s spirit is right now. Jacque’s spirit continues her journey in this three-dimensional world without the constraints of a human body. “Perhaps they are not the stars, but rather openings in Heaven where the love of our lost ones pours through and shines down upon us to let us know they are happy.” Jacque will always be with those who loved her and those who knew her, watching over everyone as she did in life.
The family’s wishes were for cremation.
