Age: 86
Of: McEwen, Tennessee
Passed Away Peacefully: Sunday November 10, 2024, at NHC Dickson, TN. Jimmy, was born December 4th, 1937, in McEwen, TN. He graduated from McEwen High School, where he formed a relationship with his wife Anita of 65 years. They began their relationship at Anita’s 13th birthday party. They married on October 10, 1959, and they have two sons, Calvin and Shannon.
He began working at the United Methodist Publishing House in Nashville following his high school graduation. He started his career working on the loading docks and ended his career 34 years later as the Manager of the Distribution Center for the UMPH Abingdon Press Division. Beyond his crafty business skills that led to his receiving the company’s Presidential Award for his successful business practices, he was an industry thought leader in creating and implementing many health and wellness employee benefits programs. He was a gifted and talented athlete, often enjoying playing baseball and basketball. After his retirement from the UMPH, he worked at Buckner’s Dickson Funeral Home for 20 plus years, where he formed many relationships and helped families during their time of grief.
Jim’s true passion was relationships with people at work and in his personal life. He served as an Elder of the McEwen Church of Christ for 40 years and a Deacon for 12 years prior to his Eldership appointment. He was a dedicated Christian in all aspects of his life, and he compassionately cared for others, both for their physical and spiritual conditions. He was generous and sacrificial with his time and finances to care for his family, church members, and the community.
His contributions to the community were many. To name a few, he was elected to serve as the McEwen City Alderman. He helped organize capital campaigns to raise the money to build the McEwen High School football stadium and physically helped build it. Jim was a humble man. With him, it was always about the other person rather than himself. He loved God, his family, and his friends. He was an incredible husband, father, grandfather, and friend.
