Janet Daniel Harris of Charlotte, Tennessee passed away peacefully at her home on February 13, 2025. She was born March 29, 1944, to the late Lewis Wyatt Daniel and Mildred Berry Daniel.

Janet worked as an assistant to County Executive (County Mayor), William D. Field from 1970 until he retired in 1997. She was appointed by the County Commission to serve the remainder of William Field’s term making her the first female County Executive. In 1998, Janet was elected to a four-year term by the voters of Dickson County. In that role, she had many accomplishments: She approved the consolidation of five of the seven utility districts into the Water Authority of Dickson which enabled the construction of the Cumberland River Water System; She initiated the appointment of the County Records Commission; She arranged funding for a new elementary school and establishment of the Discovery School. Janet has community rooms named for her at the Dickson County Public Library. She retired in 2002.

Janet was a proud and dedicated member of the Charlotte Fagan Community Church, where she found a sense of belonging and purpose. Her involvement in the community extended to the Eastern Star, where she contributed her time and talents to support her friends and neighbors.

Throughout her life, Janet exhibited a love for exploration and adventure. She found joy in traveling to new places, hiking through nature’s beauty, and immersing herself in the pages of captivating books. Additionally, her creative spirit led her to the art of crochet, a hobby she pursued with enthusiasm and skill, often crafting special gifts for loved ones.

Perhaps her proudest accomplishment was her deep and abiding love for her grandchildren. Janet's affection and devotion to her family enriched their lives immeasurably, creating lasting memories that will be cherished for generations to come.

Janet Daniel Harris will be remembered not only for her contributions to her community but also for the warmth and kindness she shared with everyone fortunate enough to know her. Her spirit will live on in the hearts of family and friends she leaves behind.
