Visitation will be from 12Noon to 2:00pm on Saturday, January 29, 2011 at 5357 Cuba Landing Road, Waverly, TN. Graveside services will follow at McKeel Cemetery at 2:00pm with Sister Gayla Boshart officiating. Mrs. Smith passed away on January 20, 2011, after a lengthy battle with breast cancer. She was born on February 21, 1943, in Durham, North Carolina, to Julius Grey and Christine (Reiter) Woodell. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Dorris Eugene (Gene) Smith. Mrs. Smith was a self-described Army brat growing up in North Carolina, Florida, and Texas. She considered El Paso to be her hometown. In 1961, she met and married a solider named Gene and she bore him two sons. Mrs. Smith was a homemaker until she went to work for Sears in 1975 where she worked for 16 years. Mrs. Smith retired to Cuba Landing in December of 1991. Mrs. Smith had a variety of interests. She loved to travel. She liked arts and crafts, jewelry making, quilting, and sewing. Her favorite pastime was reading. She embraced technology and enjoyed her computer and playing videogames. Mrs. Smith is survived by sons Russell Smith of Lake Dallas, TX, and Lance (Stacey) Smith of White Bluff, TN, and granddaughters Katie Christine Smith of Greenview, Illinois, and Hunter Layne Smith of White Bluff, TN. Mrs. Smith is also survived by her brother, Timothy (Tim) Woodell of El Paso, TX, niece Timera (James) Drake of Seattle, WA, and nephew Brandon (Misty) Woodell of Albuquerque, NM. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Alive Hospice, 1718 Patterson Street, Nashville, TN 37203. Arrangements by Humphreys County Funeral Home. (931)296-5955
