Lester Eugene “Gene” Trotter Sr. “Coach Trotter”       Age:  90

Of: Waverly, TN, passed away Friday, May 17, 2024, at Ascension Saint Thomas Three Rivers Hospital in Waverly, TN. Gene was born June 17, 1933, in Waverly, TN. 
 
Coach Trotter's dedication to basketball was truly extraordinary. He not only excelled as a basketball player at Austin Peay State University for four years but also went on to become a beloved basketball coach and principal at Waverly Central High School. His passion for the sport was evident in every game he coached and every student he mentored. The gymnasium at Waverly Central High School was even named in his honor, a testament to the lasting impact he had on the school and its students.
 
Beyond his career in education, Coach Trotter also served his country with honor, spending two years in the army. His commitment to service extended beyond the military and into all aspects of his life.
 
Aside from his professional achievements, Coach Trotter had a love for fishing and found joy in being an auctioneer. These hobbies gave him moments of peace and allowed him to connect with others outside of the basketball court.
 

One of Coach Trotter's proudest accomplishments was being inducted into the TSSAA Hall of Fame—a well-deserved recognition of his contributions to the world of sports and education.

Visitation: will be held Saturday, May 18, 2024, from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm and Sunday, May 19, 2024, from 11:00 am until service time at Humphreys County Funeral Home.

Funeral Service: will be held Sunday, May 19, 2024, at 1:00 pm at the Humphreys County Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Jeff Keele officiating.

Interment will follow in Richlawn Cemetery
