Mamie Nell Harrington Caldwell, The Prettiest Girl in Middleburg, gained entrance to Heaven December 23, 2018. Nell was born April 23, 1936 to doting parents. She grew up believing she had a charmed life. She was adored, teased and spoiled by three brothers, whom she loved dearly. She played with her cousins and friends, attended school in Scotts Hill, and graduated from Lexington High School. She married William Reid Caldwell and moved to Charlotte, Tennessee, where they raised and loved three daughters and a son. Nell grew up picking cotton in West Tennessee, and she brought that strong work ethic with her to the small farm in Dull. When she wasn’t in the garden or keeping house, she worked as a substitute teacher at Charlotte Elementary School, and later as a teachers aid at the Dickson County Alternative School and Jackson Academy. Nell was an active member of Greenwood United Methodist Church, and taught her children The Word by showing them how to share with those less fortunate, to love those unloved, and to show tolerance to those who were different or misunderstood. She spent her retirement crocheting for her family, friends, and charity. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, and her great-grandchildren, and was so proud of all their accomplishments, big and small. She may have dreamed of being a model and living in California, but she was happy to be needed on Pistol Road to teach us that beauty and elegance lives in our hearts - and that perfectly applied lipstick will always lift your spirits. Visitation for Ms. Caldwell will be held Friday, December 28, 2018 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and again Saturday, December 29, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. until time of service. Funeral Services for Mrs. Caldwell will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 29, 2018 from the Chapel of the Spann Funeral Home with Tom Heard and Greer Hinson officiating. Internment will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery. She was preceded in death by her parents, Oder JD and Lellar Wise Harrington, her brothers, Charles (Mae), Gene (Flora Mae), and Oder, Jr “Bug” (Elsie) and the father of her children William Reid “Bill” Caldwell. She is survived by her children, Shanta Hinson (Mark), Reggie Batey (WH), Billie Pastor (Ricky) and Christopher Caldwell; grandchildren, Chas (Ashley) and Adrian Osborn, Tyler (Amy) and Nick Batey, and Chase Caldwell; her great grandchildren, Brody and Harper Osborn, Austin Womack, Brooklyn and Brinley Batey; many nieces and nephews, and a multitude of friends, old and new. While Nell loved flowers, she wanted donations to be made to a family in need, American Cancer Society, or to any charitable organization. She personally made frequent donations to Saint Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
