Mary Emily (Satterfield) Blackburn, age 85, passed away on Wednesday, June 2nd, 2021 at The Lodge @ Natchez Trace, Nashville, TN. Emily was born October 14th, 1935 in Roxboro, NC, the daughter of Byrd Isaac Satterfield and Sarah Winnie (Jones) Satterfield. Emily graduated from Duke University in 1956 where she met her future husband Dr. Charles Edward Blackburn. They were wed on the 1st day of September, 1956. Emily and Ed raised four children in Tennessee; Paul Blackburn, Winnie (Blackburn) Smith, Charlie Blackburn & Clay Blackburn. Emily enjoyed a successful career as a school teacher and retired from the Dickson County Board of Education. Emily participated in music programs where her husband pastored as a United Methodist minister. She loved music, the arts and literature.
Besides her husband and four children, Emily is survived by her ten grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Winnie Davis Cheney. The family wishes to thank all of those who cared for her and her family. Donations/gifts should be made to Habitat for Humanity and or the Dickson County Help Center. Visitation: will be held from 4-7 p.m. Monday, June 7, 2021, at the Spann Funeral Home (1961 Hwy 48 N Dickson, TN) and from 1-2:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 8, 2021, at Dickson First United Methodist Church (215 N Main St, Dickson, TN 37055).
Funeral Service: will be conducted at 2:00 Tuesday, June 8, 2021, at Dickson First United Methodist Church with Bro. Ed White Officiating.
Internment: at Dickson County Memorial Gardens (3230 Highway 70 East
Burns, TN)
