Mizelle Ferrell McClure, age 81, of Sikeston, died Saturday, July 8, 2023, at the Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.
Born September 22, 1941, in the Gnat Hill Community near Beechgrove, TN, to the late William “Lacy” Ferrell and Earline McCullough Ferrell, after her high school graduation, Mizelle went on to study at St. Thomas School of Nursing in Nashville, TN.
For over 50 years, Mizelle worked in the medical field. Wherever her husband was transferred for with his employment, she immediately went to work as a registered nurse, starting in Tennessee, Alabama and then in Missouri, eventually settling in Sikeston where they have lived the past number of years.
Mizelle worked in numerous hospitals and medical clinics, served as a public health nurse, worked as a geriatric nurse, taught classes for those wishing to become a Licensed Practical Nurse and served as the Director of Nursing in Nursing Homes.
Mizelle was a lifelong and faithful member of the Church of Christ.
On April 12, 1963, she married Jimmy Wayne “Jim” McClure, who survives of the home.
Also surviving is her daughter, Rebecca McClure of Sikeston; her sister, Mildred Campbell; her brother, Tony (Linda) Ferrell; and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Thomas Ferrell; her sisters, Shirley Vaughn, Nellie Duke and Bertha Mae Ferrell; one niece and two nephews.
Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Friday, July 14, 2023, at the McMikle Funeral Home in Sikeston, Missouri.
Local visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m., Saturday, July 15, 2023, at Humphreys County Funeral Home. Graveside services will follow at Wyly Cemetery.
