Richard D. Mercer, Jr., passed away on Saturday April 5, 2025. He was born February 26, 1939, in Kell, Illinois. He graduated from Salem High School in Salem, Illinois in 1961. Upon graduation, Richard enlisted in the United States Air Force and served as an electrician from 1961 to 1964, and forever after had a love of airplanes.

He married Judy Kretzer on May 24, 1975, and they had almost 50 years of wedded bliss. He worked as an Electrician for Acco-Vacumlift in Salem, Illinois and through this job worked on the Alaskan Pipeline. He retired from Acco-Vacumlift in 1990 but due to his strong work ethic, he went to work as an Assembler at Wal-Mart in Waverly, Tennessee.

Everyone who ever met Richard was quick to say, “He was the nicest, kindest man they had ever met.” He loved the St. Louis Cardinals and NASCAR racing.

Richard is survived by his wife, Judy, daughter-in-law, Cathy Lance, granddaughters, Marissa Kay Lance and Ashley Jo Lance, brother, Dale Mercer, sisters, Pat Bass and Joyce (Gerald) Shaffer, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Richard D. Mercer, Sr., mother, Edna Mahan, son, Michael E. Lance, sister, Ann, brother, Steve Mercer, and brother-in-law, Robert Hooper.

Visitation will be held from 12:00pm until service time Wednesday, April 9, 2025, at Humphreys County Funeral Home.

Funeral Services for Mr. Mercer will be conducted at 2:00pm, Wednesday, April 9, 2025, in the Humphreys County Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. William Brown officiating.

Interment will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery in McEwen, Tennessee.
