Terry Compton, from Horse Cave Kentucky, could really play the game of basketball. He served as a star for many in Hart County, Kentucky (his home county), as they followed his career from high school to Memorial Gymnasium of Vanderbilt University. Terry gave his many fans in KY something to talk about, even though he played 50 years ago. Terry shined on the court, as the leading scorer all three of his varsity years at Vandy. He was also an excellent student recognized as an academic All-American.
Terry, age 68, was operating a cattle farm in White Bluff, TN, and died on November 22, 2020 from Covid-19. His lifelong vocation of 35 years, was serving as a consulting Civil Engineer with Smith Seckman Reid, Inc. (SSR) in Nashville, TN.
He is preceded in death by his father, George Compton, and his mother Margaret Compton.
Included in Terry’s huge list of devoted loved ones is his wife Theresa, his grandson Tanner, and his daughter Britt. He leaves behind other family members who loved him much: brother, Billy Compton and sister, Mary Lou Hill, his sister-in-law, Sue Ann Compton, his brother-in-law, Byron Hill. He was loved also by his nephews Will Compton, and Robbie Linzy, his nieces, Margo Atcher, Katie Hill, Joy Jolly, Kat Linzy, and Kim Linzy along with many more nieces and nephews: William, Wade, Emma Kate, Anna Kate, and Bailey.
Terry was a follower of Jesus Christ who was always willing to give to others. He volunteered for many years in coaching softball. He was a horseman, a fisherman, a golfer, and a duck hunter. But his true love was his cattle farm, working along side Bobby Joe Lynn and Joe Lynn. He lived a full life, living the things he loved. He will be missed by so many because he had lived his life being a role model to all those around him.
Pallbearers for the service will be Will Compton, Brad Poole, Donny Downs, Chad Miller, Chris Buckner, Bob Butler, Joe Lynn, and David Atcher.
