Thomas Milton “Tommy” Chappell, age 73, of New Johnsonville, TN, passed away at home surrounded by his family on Saturday, March 1, 2025. He was born on December 29, 1951, in Nashville, TN to Coy D. and Mandy Eunice Potter Chappell. Tommy graduated from Waverly Central High School in 1971.

Tommy met the love of his life, Paula, in elementary school and they were together until she passed in April of 2024. He held her hand as she took her last breath.

Tommy was a member of the Caldwell Masonic Lodge #273, all his adulthood. He worked at Inland Container (Hood) from the time he graduated until he retired in December of 2017. Tommy loved to fish and hunt, but he loved taking kids hunting and fishing the most. He has taught several boys, now men, all the tips and tricks that he knew about hunting and fishing. He was always so proud when they would get their first deer or hook their first fish. Tommy always looked forward to his yearly fishing trips to Texas with the boys.

After his retirement, he gained a new hobby of gathering at Thompson’s for coffee every morning with his group. There’s no telling the stories that were told! He also made regular visits to his sister’s house to see his babies. They loved when “Uncle Tommy” came by because he would more than likely have some type of goodies for them.

Tommy was preceded in death by his soulmate, Paula Chappell; parents, Coy and Eunice Chappell; brothers, Gary Chappell and Vernice Chappell; sister & brother-in-law, Patsy and Jerry Wills; and a child due to Paula’s miscarriage.

Tommy is survived by his daughter, Shelby Cathey (Cody); granddaughter, Emma Tidwell; sisters, Cathey Chappell, Debbie Forrester, Judy Chappell, Liz Mitchell (Lee) and Sandra Baker (Eddie); brother, Barry Chappell (Pattie); sisters-in-law, Carol Fortner (late Bobby) and Diane Cummings (late Henry); brother-in-law, David Cagle (late Nancy); special son, Michael Daniel (Lexie); family dog, Bullet; and several nieces, nephews and many friends.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 8:00pm Sunday, March 2nd with a Masonic Service at 7:00pm and from 9:00am until service time Monday, March 3rd at Humphreys County Funeral Home.

Funeral Services for Mr. Chappell will be conducted at 11:00am Monday, March 3, 2025, in the Humphreys County Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Kenny Mullinax officiating.
