Thomas "Junior" Ray Oliphant

Thomas “Junior” Ray Oliphant, age 81, of New Johnsonville, Tennessee, passed away Thursday, October 31, 2024, in Waverly, Tennessee. Junior Oliphant was born December 11, 1942, in Hurricane Mills, Tennessee, to Herman Ray Oliphant and Ruby Collier Oliphant. He was married to Linda Reece Oliphant. He was a retired Heavy Equipment Operator and a famous quote of his was, “I love the smell of fresh dirt!” He was a member of First Baptist Church of Waverly, Operating Engineers Local Union #369, and a former member of the New Johnsonville Lions Club. His family was his most prized possession, and he loved to spend time with them. Junior enjoyed camping with family and friends and golfing in his earlier years. He was a self-proclaimed fried catfish critic and loved spending time on the Tennessee River where he taught many to water ski. In his later years, he enjoyed life from the rocking chair in his garage. Junior never met a stranger!

Visitation: will be held Saturday, November 2, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., and Sunday, November 3, 2024, from 12:00 p.m. until service time at Humphreys County Funeral Home.

Funeral Service: will be held Sunday, November 3, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. in the Humphreys County Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Adam Mullinax will be officiating the service. 

Interment: will follow at Richlawn Cemetery in Waverly, Tennessee.

Andy Oliphant (Elizabeth) of Brentwood, TN

Diane McCord of Lexington, KY

Blake Porch (Lacy), Kelsie Oliphant (Jacob Jones), Jackson Oliphant, and Anna Oliphant

Great Grandchildren:

Brooks Porch and Grayson Porch

Several nieces, nephews, and many cousins

Preceded in death by:

Parents: Herman Ray Oliphant and Ruby Collier Oliphant McCord

Sister: Jean Oliphant Hartley
